I am so looking forward to Halloween this year! I have always liked dressing up and being someone different for a day. When our son arrived, I found it even more fun to create costumes that tie in together. It’s been a lot of work, but a lot of fun, too. This year, J picked a fairly easy costume idea, and I have already purchased what the Hubs and I will wear to accompany our little trick or treater on his night flight for candy!
Since I don’t have a lot to make for this year’s costumes, my creative juices are working on some new Halloween decor items for our home. I just finished these “Emergency Vampire Stakes.” And, making them was easier than falling for Edward Cullen!
First, you will need some wooden stakes. I got these at our local home and garden store. They were so inexpensive, too!
After doing a little sanding to eliminate splinters, I painted them with some glossy black craft paint.
With a pencil and ruler, I drew a faint line down the center so I would be able to keep my letters as straight as possible.
Using a Glow in the Dark fabric paint pen, I then wrote, “Pull In Case of VAMPIRES.”
I tried it two different ways and had such a hard time deciding which one I liked better than I ended up using both of them.
Because I used glow in the dark paint, the stakes “charge up” all day and then shine into the evening. I wish I could show you how cool they look at night, but when you make your own, you will see for yourself.
